sump question from a new guy

I am looking at a 30 gallon acrylic sump box that i found for sale local. My question is this. I already bought a protein skimmer to go in the sump. On this particular box the hole that is meant for the skimmer is too small for the one i bought. It would however fit into the main center compartment of the sump. Is that an acceptable place to put it? If that works i am going to pick up this sump.

The only problem that I would see possibly is the number of bubbles produced. If you already have everything bought, I would try it.

You can make the hole bigger . You can use a dremel or Roto Zip . How much smaller is it ? It can also be drilled but takes a bit of skill to get the bit started

sounds like i can also run the skimmer external and run the pipes into the correct area. I have not bought the sump yet but its a great deal and i hate to pass it up. thanks for the input.
