Sump question

I have a 55gal reef tank with hang-on equipment.
I have a 10g spar tank just sitting which was used for freshwater for a year.

Can a 10g be used as sump fr 55gal?
If so,how would i go about get it setup?

I have 65 with a ten gallon sump. I have it set up as a fuge, with an external skimmer.

I actaully have a wet/dry I converted into a fuge. But basically its a sump with baffles. It has a spot in the middle I have a sand bed and some macro algea. Then there is a baffle to separate the macro from the return pump. I have the drain from my DT split 1 goes to my skimmer the other to my fuge. I won't be around tomorrow but I will try to get some pics tomorrow night.

King, just be careful with a 10 gallon sump. The area you have for the return pump is not going to be very large once you have the baffles in it. The evaporation from the tank and sump is going to show in that return chamber. Meaning, you are going to have to be VERY concerned with keeping it topped off. If you don't, the pump will run dry and blow air all over the display, right before the pump burns up from running dry.

I totally understand trying to save money when you can. You can use a 10G for a sump but it would be better off used as a QT tank and get a 20L (20 Breeder) or possibly a 27G tank for a sump.

A better choice would be a 20 long. I had one as a ump for a 55 and it was great. Had room for baffles, the skimmer was in sump and there was room for the return. IMO a 10 is to restrictive due to its foot print.

It's better to go with something bigger so you can get everything in and the evaporation will last longer.

If you can get a hold of a 20L then you could use the 10 as a top off reservoir.
