sump or wet dry?
which is more beneficial? I have a proclear 125 g wet dry right now but would it be better to set up a 40gallon aquarium for a sump system? please advise me on what to setup for the long run. I have a 125gallon tank with the start of a beautiful reef system. please help....

I vote for the 40 gallon set up as a sump...of course, if you took the bioballs (if you use them) out of the proclear , you could just use it as a sump.

if you are planning on using the bioballs in the pro clear, then the 40 gallon would be more beneficial as bio balls can be nitrate factories...if there is a way you can run the pro clear without the bio balls then that would be fine.

a sump is nothing more than a container to have extra water volume, a place to put your equipment ie: skimmer, heaters...return pump, and a place to have a fuge if you want... Lots of people on here, some very smart reefers, do not even believe in having a fuge so that is a matter of person preference. So, with that said, IF you can take the bioballs out of the proclear and just usae the actual container for your skimmer and pumps and heaters then it will be fine.

Depends on what your growing SPS (no fuge) or LPS and sofies (maybe fuge) IMO.
