Sump Lighting
Part of my sump is going to be lighted and I want to go with the most efficient form of lighting that I can. It will have live rock, sand and either macro algae or grass. I'm thinking that a regular fluorescent light fixture with some form of plant grow light would be suffiecient or is my thinking off base?
Thanks in advance.
Mike

I would throw out the sand and make it a BB fuge. Easier to remove the crud that settles in there than process it. Otherwise the rock and a good macro such as chaeto would be fine. I use a 6,500 k screw in compact flo from the hardware store and it works well.

I am using an outdoor floodlight that I wired using a computer power cable so I could plug it directly into the wall socket. It is compact flourescent, uses 26 watts of electricity but the output is equivalent to 200 watts. I bought it at Lowes and it wasn't expensive at all. I did this about 3 weeks ago and am starting to see some very good growth results in my refugium.
