Sump light short

I have a stock coralife 28 watt pc light in my sump for cheato and it keep going going out, I switched the bulb out yesterday and it lasted 6 hours and went out. I took the bulb off and cleaned the connection and it came back on for 1 min. As there and suggestions to fix this light? Is it junk is the ballast worth keeping?

It might be getting wet... Have you inspected it closely to ensure that there is not water getting inside?

there may be some ambient moisture, but not directly wet. Should I take it apart to let it dry?

yeah, sounds as though the ballast is starting to fail (or failed) either due to moisture or just age. I'd probably just replace it with a new socket and bulb from home depot. They're quite cheap to rig up a little light for a fuge .

salt creep across a connection wouldnt be aided by letting it dry, you may need to clean it out well. Here's a link to the bulbs I was refering to, you're probably familiar with them.
