Sump for 55 gal

Can you some how put a 75 gal below a 55 gal for a sump. I was thinking of just making the stand wider and longer to hide the 75 below it.

Why dont you place the 55 below the 75? It's very unusual to use a bigger than the display tank for a sump, the 1st reason is that it doesn't fit and the 2nd is that you will not have any free space for pumps, chemicals etc. The only way that this can be done right is placing the 75 at the side of the 55 or in another place.

Is one of those trick thread? hmm why would anyone want to make a 75GL a Sump for a 55GL tank?

if you have the space to put a 75GL as a sump then wouldn't it be better use as a main tank then the 55GL as a sump?

yes it can be done. but you will have to beef up the supports. since the 75 is wider then the 55.. if this is the way you want to go..

I am considering all my options. I can put a 90 short inwall because I have a 36x24 inlet in the wall and its by the garage but i just wanted the most out of the sump because you can barely fit anything under a 55 gal stand.

I know how you feel. I have the same problem with my stand being too small, but putting a 75GL tank in as a sump for the 55GL show tank just wrong I am not saying you can not do it, I am just thinking that a 75GL show tank and 55 GL tank would be a better way to go. Also you do not need that BIG of a sump to keep all your stuff in it.

20GL sump for a 55GL tank would be good enough and it leave you with little room bihind the stand. Not much, but enough for a skimmer and auto top up outside the tank + all your other stuff could stay inside the sump
