sump dirty


does it matter than under my sump is dirty with brown looking gunk? is it normal. its only like that under the actial bio balls and bio bale but none bu the pump. just wonderinf if i should some how clean this stuff

Mine is dirty too but it digests white poofs through my return pump. No idea what to do except fish the little suction tube in there and vacuum it out.

If you can suck this out when you do a water change then you're that much further ahead. Since my sump is at ground level I use a powerhead and 1/2" tube to pump the debris out.

I have a useless check valve so my system is really at ground level. I will siphon from there next time and try that.

yeah thats him i actually got a good pic of him. pretty cool little guy wish he would stay small and cute. the next fish i get is a coral beauty the wife likes thoose. i told here to choose an anenome or the coral beauty she does not understand how they cant go together and i told her that in the ocean they still eat eachother you just dont pay for it.

in my case i dont have reef tank. the bio balls have not casued any problems for me. i dont have to many of them just abouta pound. most of the media is the bio bale that came with the cpr sump. and some filter floss that gets cleaned out every few days. how many times can i rinse that stuff anyways before i should cut a new piece? i like it alot better than the blue fileter pad that came with the sump, the floss keeps the tank a lot cleaner
