sudden bleaching of acro

I have a purple acro colony which was doing pretty well. Whenm the lights went off last night the coral had full color. Just now i came home, a whole section of it has gone dead white for no apparent reason.
All other corals are fine including monti.
whats going on

Got a pic??

Doesnt sound like bleaching to me...sounds like RTN. If the tissue is gone..........its rtn.

How long have you had it?? Any water quality issues lately??

FWIW....unfortunately.......losing sps overnight is part of the learning curve when keeping stonies. Even after the learning curve is over and you feel confident in your system and abilities........it still happens sometimes to us all

If the tissue is indeed gone where you describe it as bleaching....you have one option at this point....frag the coral....cut it off up into the healthy tissue so that the piece(s) you are gluing have no dead tissue on them. Make sure the glue covers up the new cut completely

It doesnt always work....but sometimes it can stop it from spreading....

the bleaching is osolated to a group of branches which can be easily snipped off/
How do you tell if there is no tissue? Ill get a pic hold on

Cant tell from the pic john...too blurry

If you see any kind of polyp extension on the white parts, or can see tissue on the white parts..........i wouldnt do anything but possibly move it........but we need to know more about whats going on in your system and placment before making that call

If you see white skeleton, possibly with tissue flaking off next to it.........then i would snip the ends off....snip them off into the healthy tissue and cover the ends with a little glob of super glue.

Well, since its under pcs its right at the top of the tank . I did get my HOT cls going yesterday and one of the discharges is blowing at the acro, but i thought they like high flow.
I dont test water for anything but sg, nitrates, and ph. ph is 8.1 trates are 5 and salinity is 1.026 and temp is 78F.

How do I tell if there is tisssue?

Look at the coral where there is color closely......you will be able to see a thin layer of softer tissue over the skeleton.....there will typically be tiny lines in the tissue. If the skeleton is showing......there is no tissue.....just dkeleton.

Bleaching is when that tissue lightens or turns white.

Typically in instances of rtn you will be ablet o see the tissue flaking off on the edge of where the skeleton is showing and the healthier parts of the coral with flesh

Also typically with rtn...that wasnt noticable last night as you described..............the coral would be visibly worse off now than it was when you started this thread....

they like random flow around them, nothing blowing on them it can blow the tissue right off it to strong.
