I think that was part of my problem - the temp.. The water got too cool by the time I added it... So essentially I acclimated them at one temp - then added them at another!

Get yourself a second heater to keep the new water warm until you can add it to the main tank. It's always a good idea to have a backup heater anyway.

while getting the heater get a small powerhead to mix the salt (let it sit over night heating and mixing) and you can attach a hose to it the powerhead and add the water slowly with out lifting buckets and dumping.

i would say yes it is ! if the new fish are smaller then everything should work out (or you will lost you new dams)

Maybe it was kind of a blessing in disguise though... When I got it - it had a few nicks in it... and I think it was probably that and a combination of acclimating it during a water change? I thought better of that towards the end of that... Or - maybe someone didn't like it? I'm going to test my water - but the smaller of the 2 is what's left, so maybe it's better to just have 1 anyway...

i heared that if you keep more than one they will start nipping at the smaller one till theres olny one left any way ><

Im using a rio 50 right now it doesn't have far up to go in my sump , but a 90 or 180 would work a bit better. I just use the hose from gravel vac or siphon. On the heater get a stealth, they are thermo plastic not glass and have auto shut off so they wont break if you take it out of the water too quick.

Great - stealths are great - that's what I have in all my tanks so I did get one of those... Question if you're still around? Is it ok to get one bigger than I need? In case I want to use it for something else later down the road? So can I get the 25g one even though for now I'm only going to be heating 5 gallon buckets?
Oh - so my siphon tube will fit onto my pump? going to check them out now! Thanks! I won't have far to go...

yea get as big a one as you want, just remember to be careful if you get a big one as the water will come out fast. I wouldnt go over a 600, and it may not fit in the hole of the jug, so a salt bucket willbe needed or a rubbermaid bin.

OH - I meant a bigger heater than I needed? Will it still heat properly?
