Stupid question...freeze dried food and floating....

Ok so a while back I ordered some freeze dried mysis shrimp and krill from I think brineshrimpdirect.com. THe problem is, the stuff floats in water and does not sink!! This makes feeding a pain. Any idea what I can do to it to get it to sink? I thought of boiling it or something, but I have no idea what would saturate this stuff and make it fall. Even if I leave it in water overnight, it still floats. I know, stupid question .

I squeeze the krill to get the air bubble out of it and the same would prolly work for the shrimp. Thats the only downfall of freeze dried. They get an air pocket where the guts are and won't sink but when the are just frozen they don't.

Thats why I'm wondering if boiling them would help soften them up and get the air out. Mysis are hard to squeeze

I have yet to deal with mysis so I wouldn't know. You could try boiling a couple and see how it worked or you could invest in a nut cracker to squeeze the shrimp.

I soak mine in ro water. but I have switched back to frozen. Easier to deal with.

IMO boiling would zap nutrients out of them.

Just soak them in some tank water or RO, squeeze the air out of them, and they'll sink. Good chance to put vitamins in them if you use them - Zoecon or Marine C, or garlic.

I use freeze dried krill and once the fish learn to eat it - it barely hits the water

Well, I bought a frozen food called 'Mega-Marine' that floats as well. Talk about dumb - the stuff looks like it's been processed into little tubes and I don't think it ever sinks. I left it in the tank for a couple of hours and found it had collected (still floating) around the powerheads at the back. Waste of money.

Hope you find a way to get yours to sink - maybe the same technique would work on mine.
