Stupid ques...
Ok, I dont have the info in front of me and cant seem to find it online so here it goes.. Which is the inlet and outlet on the GenX pcx40 water pump?? There is an opening on top which Im assuming is the inlet (water from tank) and there is an opening on the side (water to tank).. Is this correct??? Is this the standard for all external water pumps??

If it what i am thinking the one facing up is the outlet and the one facing to the side is the inlet.

Yep, the center (out the side) of a centrifugal pump is always the intake.

I had that same pump (1190 GPH) on my 55 gal tank. I had to replace that pump because I had way to much water pressure. When I added the rocks was even worse, my tank was never clear, I always had sand flying all around the tank (see picture) by the way is noisy. Right now my pump is a QuietOne 4000 (850 GPG @ 4' more or less).
Sha23, we pretty much have the same setup, 55gal, 65 lbs if fiji rock and 4 - 65.
Good luck!

I may add that you can adjust the outlet angle by removing the bolts and rotating the piece. No canned spring loaded snake will pop out if you do this

Where did you have the water directed in your tank? Im putting this pump on a CLS, GenX under the stand and a 46" spraybar at the bottom of the tank. The spraybar will be behind the LR, so Im hoping that I dont have a sandstorm in there... And do you have any other pics of your tank? Id love to see another fellow 55gal reefer

I use that pump on my current tank and it works great. the pressure is too much for my 90 so i do have it on a ball valve. i plan to "T" it off and use it to pump to the seahorse tank i am setting up right now.

Maybe with the spraybar it will be different, I had dual outlets coming out from top of my overflow box. That pump has power, only lose 10 GPH @ 4' head. Here are more pictures of my tank, my tank is 2 months old, tomorrow will be my first water change, maybe I buy my first coral!
