strange growth.. light brown tenticals. what is this stuff?


I've got a light brown organism, that kind of looks like it might be some type of algae. it's kind of bugging me and it's growing fast.

this is the only pic I can take right now (cellphone pics are crap)

upper right quadrant of the rock.

I know it's not the red slime algae (bacteria)

It's very hard to tell from the pic. It looks kind like an anemone. If I'm looking at what you're talking about.

it's not a anemone.. it's more like an algae. it started very small and now it's about the size of a dollar coin, and it growing faster than ever.

Does it react when disturbed?

I would say it's a sponge of some sort.

doesn't react at all. i'm pretty sure it is some type of (soft) sponge. I had a pretty large outbreak of the pineapple sponge when my tank was cycling.
