Stockman standpipe makes loud gurgling sounds...
So last night i cut and build myself a stockman standpipe from the directions off of his website.
It is much quieter than what I had previously built myself, but still seems to suck in air which causes loud gurgles when that air gets pulled into my sump...
Would drilling like 2-3 smaller holes around the one hole that I have on the top fix this? If not, any suggestions?
And I absolutely don't have room for a durso standpipe.

I will say that I alway put an airline and then an little vent cap or airstone in the line and the noise stops. act like a filter

Good call Vince! You could also run the line to a small PVC "silencer" made of two caps cemented together one with a larger intake hole and the whole thing filled with cotton. Kinda like the silencer on a MRC skimmer.

So making a larger hole will prevent the pipe from sucking air into my sump then?

How is the drain pipe dumping into the sump? Can you get a pic? There are a few things you can do at that end to help guei the noise in the sump. I had a stockman on my 55 and did a little mod at the sump that made a huge difference. Ill see if I can find a pic....

Drill and tap in a 3/8" pipe threaded hole, thread in a jaco line fitting that has a valve on it, and use the valve to controll how much air comes into the fitting. If you need more silencening, tap in the silencer as per above using a threaded reducer, an end cap, and an appropriate nipple (3/8" OD) to thread it to the top of the stockman and tap the valve into the top of it: works like a charm.

your pipe is dumping straigt in, that causes a lot of noise in most cases, cut it, and put a 45 on it then extend it till it hits the front glass under the water line, might help some.

Would a air valve from a powerhead do the same thing as the jaco line fitting? I dont have access to taps to thread the piping.
Gonna run to the hardware store and pick up a 45 elbow and try that then too.

you can get a pipe tap for about $5 or 6 USD from HD that will do this for you, but so long as you can make the fitting airtight so you can control it, it does not matter what type of valve you use. You could even try drilling one 1/8" hole at a time in the cap (and let it run for a bit to test) until the noise stops, but that can be a bit frustrating to find the sweet spot.
