Question

stocking

okay, for my 40 gallon tank, what kind of fish should I put in. Give me some stocking schemes like this:

2 perculas
1 watchman goby
1 spotted mandarin fish
1 yellow tang
3 peppermint shrimp
15 turbo snails
1 blenny
1 great white shark

The best stocking scheme will win a very funny joke!

Well the shark will eat all the other fish

I would reconsider the yellow tang - needs a 4' tank. A small specimen will be ok for a little while til it grows so if you opt for this fish, please have an exit plan - either plan to get another larger tank, or be willing to give/trade the fish out at the right time.

As for the Mandarin - these are obligate crustacean feeders - they typically starve to death in small tanks because they eat up the pods before the pods can reproduce in sufficient numbers to sustain a food supply for the Mandarin. They are a beautiful fish and hardy in the *right* situation... but in my opinion a 40 is too small. Sorry

Otherwise, your choices look good

2 perculas OK
1 watchman goby OK
1 spotted mandarin fish NO
1 yellow tang NO
3 peppermint shrimp OK
15 turbo snails OK
1 blenny OK
1 great white shark no - substitute with
1. Hapalochlaena maculosa
it is a better fit, an interesting conversation piece, and makes tank maintenance just as exciting
