well, it's almost steve's new canopy. i jsut have to finish building it

it's being built for his 55g AGA and will house MH's

the front will have one big swing up door, and the top wil lalso be on hinges as well.

and the font opening is cut out.

i left the funny looking notch in the center, to hold another "support bar" not sure if it's really needed, but since the top will be able to open, i wanted to give some weight support in the front. but i also wanted to have the rest of the opening flush with the tank, so that steve doesnt have to reach up that extra inch and a half to get into the tank. that little section will be covered by the door though.

and a view of the partially completed unit on my fw 55 aga. the canopy has an open back, since he'll be using MH. since the top wil lbe on hinges, i wanted to give some good support in the back, to attach the hinges to, so the board at the top rear is a premium qaulity 2x4 (the rest of the canopy is 3/4" pine laminate shelving wood)

a view from the side. i was going to make the back of the canopy flush with the back of the tank, but since the canopy overlaps the tank trim in the front and both sides, i went ahead and made the back overlap a bit as well, to make it look the same all the way around, especially when looking at the tank from the side.

tomorrow i'll get the front door, top lid, and some bottom trim in place.

WOW!!!! That looks awsome Jay!! I've been working so **** much I missed the thread!

I can't wait to put it on my tank!!!!!! You do some quality work man.....Maybe you should open up a woodworking business? I know that I would pay for some of your work! You could make some serious $$$$!
