Ok may be a dumb question but what the heck. I have a 55 g tank that once was a freshwater tank we moved so i gave thenm to a friend .I want to do a reef tank in this tank aswell.Well i guess my question is to put in a sump does the tank have to be drilled or something im toatly foriegn to the sump pump thing, and want to do the 55 the right way.MY 35 hex doesnt have one on it and has been up for about a year now doing ok with minimal problems . Can someone tell me what i will need to do to make this tank up to par .Plus what type of light would be ok for the 55 i have a current sunpod on the 35 hex but holy smokes it is 500 bucks for that light in a 48' any help would be appreciated.

hi,
well witha standard 55 gallon.
the bottom is not something you want to drill. if you do decide to drill you willhave to do it on the back. you can add bulk heads for a CLS and for draining and returns. if you are ot up to drilling, you can buy overflow boxes fromseveral of our vendors. these connect to tubing and run right into the sump.

as for lighting, lets look at what corals you want to have first, then decide onthe lighting system

if you have the means drill it.
I have a HOB overflow, and it works good once you get it set up, but I will drill it when I move.
48" T5 HO 4 bulb will work well for most corals.
What do you want to do with the tank? ie what kind of critters?
