Stars and clams

I was going to get a sand sifting star to help keep the 1 1/2" sand layer stirred but was wondering if it would go after the clams which will also be part of my near future. I have had clams in the past with pretty good success but never with a starfish. Any specific suggestions about types of stars. I know there is one kind without suction cups so it stays down in the sand. That sounds like what I am looking for.

generally speaking the thicker the arms the more likely it will want to eat your clams. also the larger the central disc the greater the chance it will want to eat your clam.

of course these are general rules. i am not a big star fan. right now the only one i have is a 15" black bristle star. extremely thin arms and tiny central disc. it just pulls in detritus.
