Starfish ID needed ASAP
Here is a small starfish, he may be a sandsifter but I want to be sure... he came on a clam that I got, please let me know what you think he might be... as I would like to make him a part of the group...
I hope he isn't a baby chocolate chip, he doesn't look like it.... this is the best pic I could get...

Patience, Grasshopper!
Looks to me like Asterina sp. Most are harmless but some are coral munchers. They reproduce by fission - they split themselves in two.
I've got bunches of them in my 120 display at the shop - they have done no harm.

yeah, but they can multipl so quickly that if they are the bad ones, they eat other things besides detritus...
...like coral tissue...

This is what I was concerned about, but he is already in the tank, should I just remove him.. Although he was on the clam when i bought him, I didn't notice any others throughout the tank..

I read that the asterina are rarely fully formed, this starfish however has all five legs... could it be something else??
