Question

star polyps not opening question w/pics

ok so most of you know i got a star polyp frag for cheap at That Fish Place. It opened up within the first hour and was fine. Then every day I noticed less polyps opening. Now it is down to none. The frag itself still looks healthy but no polyps. Is this a fade or is it dead. My tooth coral on the other hand, from my limited knowledge, is doing good. The color is good and when the lights go off i see the mouth open and tentical looking things coming out of it. So my first concern is the polyps. The polyp frag is in a direct flow and half way up in the tank. Second is this tooth coral from what I was told is straight photosynthesis. Do I need to bother feeding it anything else. It is a lps and I was told at the store I dont have to. But now i am not sure. The tenticals are so tiny.

its a 12g tank with less then 2 month old current orbit pc 40w actinic and 40w daylight so 80w total. Thats 6.67w per gallon. There is a Korlia 1 (400gph) at the one end of my tank and the star polyps are at the other but in the flow. When the were open they were getting blown around good. My water is ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 15

Take the polyps out of direct flow, that might make a diff. My polyps dont get much flow at all, and the are blowing out like weeds.

just give them time, I think they just need time to adjust.

I agree with Jena.

Also,.. Whenever I move mine, or otherwise upset them they nomally take about 2 days to open back up again.

I think leaving them alone for now is the best course,.. sometimes mine will close up for 2 or 3 days for seeming no purpose, then open right back up again.

Lots of different opinions here looks like but when my tank got dirty from overfeeding while I was gone mine closed up. A few water changes later and they started coming back. But most likely just the new move and environment.
