Have you tested your water parameters, especially ammonia and nitrite?

My star polyps are usually a pretty good "canary in a coal mine" for water quality issues.

Bob, has a large rock, covered with green stars. They went about 5 weeks without opening. Bob called me Sunday and said they suddenly reopened. Don't give up on them

I have seen this happen to my star polyps a few times. They usually stay closed for a couple of weeks at a time. I think that in my case, this is triggered when my Zenia trys to grow on top of them. They always come back after 2-3 weeks just like nothing ever happened.

As Harpo stated, I had a rock of star polyp that did not open at all for over a month. All of my tests showed that the water condition was within acceptable limits, however I had allowed my salinity to creep up to about 1.027. This to me did not seem too far out of line, since I do not mix my water, I obtain it all from the ocean and I usually run in the neighorhood of 1.025-1.026. While doing a water change, I diluted with fresh water to reduce my salinity back down to 1.025. The next day the polyps were open and alive. They look better than ever now.

Don't know if this helps you, but hey, this is one of my very few success stories, so I have to tell it.
