Stand Designs?
Ok after being somewhat talked out of the AGA stands that are available, im looking for a more DIY aproach. Ive seen a few ideas in ReefCentral but im looking for some stand designs that might of been used by some of you.
One that looks the best so far is located here http://www.northernreef.org/tank_stand.htm .
If any of you might know of some better ideas if you could let me know. Thanks!
BTW im leaning towards 90 gal with 55gal being a second choice. 90gal is 48.5 X 18.5 X 25.37 I think.

90 is nice, same as a 75 but a little taller, heavier glass thats why the price jump from 75 to 90, but the 75 would definatly be my choise over a narrow 55g, been there done that

Mark,
Double Ditto on what Doug said about the 55. Without question, the poorest configuration for a reef tank in that size range. I know; I have one! The 75 is almost ideal for the size range and uses virtually the same equipment suitable for a 55.
For the next step up from a 75, I like the 125 with its 6' length better than the 90. Of course, every time you go up in size, especially above 75 gal., $$$ increases substantially.
Here's some more links on stands:

Hey Mark-
I can attest to the quality of the stand you have linked above cuz it is now sitting in my "dining" room. Check out the 135g construction page for pics of the stand I have.
Like the other said..forget the 55. The 90 is a much better choice.

Hey Brooke,
Im assuming you put the centerpost in your stand, right? Im just wondering if I can get away with not putting it in. I know it was stated it could be without if I used 2X6" wood. Id like to make it somewhat removable for installation of the sump. Would you think a 20 Gal long would be good enough for a sump or should it be bigger? Thanks for the info guys and gals!

We do have a centerpost, which i recommend with a 6 foot tank. you might be able to get away without having one on a 4' tank. You could also add a center brace after the sump is in place. The back is open on ours with two braces towards the ends and then a center brace in front. We were able to sqeeze a 4' long 40g breeder into our sump, but we had to take the front center brace off. The tank was empty at the time, though. We replaced the brace as soon as the sump was in there. Any long tank with a height of 12-18" will work just fine as a sump. You can get some plexi and aquarium silicone and make your own baffles or sections.

Here's my setup. It's built to take more weight than it currently has on it.
