I do weekly WC on my tank and use a gravel vac on the sand weekly. My ssb is only 1/4" - 1/2" deep. I have a serpant star that was givin to me but i dont think it does a darn thing to help any IMO. I also have a few hermit crabs.

My snails and conch take care of it mostly for me. I do bi-weekly water changes where i'll blow detris off the rocks and sand to syphon it up.
