SPS under t5's
Im picking out lights 4 my 75,
I looked at the fixture Brent just got for his 75
nova extreme t5 4 54 watt 216 watt total.
Is this enough output to keep some sps corals? What about clams/ which types?

I think you would need a 4 bulb with individual reflectors. Although i guess that fixture could work for some low light sps.

I have that fixture on my 75 and it is fine for my clam. I do not think it is enough to support most SPS.

For a 75? For a SPS tank? And Clams? I would go with only 2*250W MH,.. or the Tek T5 6 Bulb fixture, with individual reflectors.
Don't forget Brent uses 6*55W PC,... PLUS the 4*54W T5.

IF youre spending the jack on new lights, and know you want SPS, I think its best to go MH. And deal with the other issues they cause.

I am using a 6 by 54 watt T-5 Retrofit kit. Works great my tank is SPS and Clams. Click on my sig and check it out. I have great color and growth all the way to the bottom. BTW I am also using the IceCap reflectors. My tank is a 75 RR also.

Shouldnt have a problem with many montipora species, and some of the lower light clams should do well too (derasa?). But, like others have said, you may just want to pull the trigger on a little beefier setup. I run six T5s on icecap ballasts and keep many acropora species under this lighting. I wish I had bought this setup from the start up, as it was the 3rd set of lights i purchased.

If I had to do it over again, I would have popped for the extra on the light.

If you're able to, step up to the 6 bulb Tek 5 unit by Sunlight Supply. Nova's are build with one reflector, not very efficient. Tek 5s are built with a reflector that individually wraps around each bulb giving you MUCH more reflectivity. They are a bit more expensive but well worth it. I have the 48" 6 bulb unit on my 75 and SPS love it!! I'm even able to keep Acros. If you must go with 4 bulbs...again, get the Tek 5. Check out this link for pricing. Great prices and Great customer service.
