SPS?? Soft Corals??


what are these exactly? SPS soft corals....

Solomon Salmon Digitata Coral (Montipora digitata)

Green Apple Cap Coral (Montipora capricornis)

Canary Porites Coral (Porites cylindrica)

and does anyone know of a site i can go to to see actual pics of adult corals, i look at smith and foster and thy show frags, but not what they turn into!!

im nto sure i understand what you are asking

sps are not "soft" corals. SPS(small polyps stony) corals are hard corals. Soft corals are things like mushrooms(corallimorphs), and leathers(sarcophyton) to name a couple

All of the corals you refer to there are hard corals, and dont look much different when they get bigger than frags......just bigger and more branches.

soft corals are corals without a calcium carbonate skeleton. the corals you listed are SPS( people debate the term SPS,dont worry about it ) SPS corals are hard(with a hard skeleton)

so i was under the ass-umption they were soft corals or SPS but in accuality they are hard?

the term "soft corals" refers to corals that are soft. think xenia, leather ect.. SPS stands for "small poylped stoney" or "small poylped Scleractinians" the corals you listed are sps=hard
