SPS additives?

What does everyone use in their tanks for which they hold SPS?

I have a 40 gallon breeder for which I add.......

weekly
kent essential elements
kent strontium and molybdenum
Kent tech M magnesium
Reef Plus vitamin and amino acid supplement

also I have been adding calcium daily along with my stupidity of the alkalinity as well. If you read my last thread you will see what has been causing the problems. My alkalinity was too high for a while which killed three of my SPS.

Keep in mind I only use a seaclone 100 and a cpr refugium. I am looking for comparisons, healthy comparisons of what all you other guys use on your tanks. I have a feeling I should stop using so much stuff.

You're feeling would be right. I think you're throwing way too much stuff into the tank. Most of your supplements are redundent - essential elements has plenty of strontium, moly, and magnesium, so you could cut out those extra supplements. It's debatable whether or not you really even need to add those on a daily basis, maybe weekly, but definitley not daily. You're gonna get different opinions on the amino acids, most people don't use it. Calcium and alk, yes, every day to maintain proper levels - especially if you have lots of sps. Save your money and buy a good skimmer - you'll be much happier in the long run. Good luck!

OK, just looked at your other thread. If you're using B-Ionic, then stop using all of those other supplements. B-Ionic already has all of those trace elements except the amino acids. This hobby is already too expensive to be wasting money . Sounds like you're on the right track though.

I agree, I would stop adding most of the stuff there. In all reality, it's a good rule of thumb to add only things that you test for. What are your levels, and what tests do you perform?

As for comparison, I add kalkwasser through a reactor for my auto top off, and I have a calcium reactor to suppliment alkalinity. I dont add anything else, but I do perform 20% water changes weekly with Reef Crystals salt.

Thanks guys, I think I will continue using the B-ionic to help target my alk and calcium levels where I need them. I will keep the essential elements to use when needed. As for the amino acids I'm not sure. I do know I will continue using the kalk once all of this straightens out. That stuff is great. Thanks guys!

with this vow, you will not need to add much of anything. calcium and alk may need it a little, but regular water changes will do more for your tank than anything you can buy in a bottle.
