Sponge has developed two whites spots where its starting to die off, should I remove

It has been healthy, and looked as if a small hole it had was starting to fill in. Well I dont know if I caused this, but I used my baster to blow out some sand that collected in the cup, and I was worried that I might have introduced some air into the tissue? Now it has two dime size whites spots that have quickly developed. Should I attempt to cut these out or will they be better off left alone. This is a blue vase sponge that I try and feed 3 times a week with frozen invert food, under 2 55watt pc's. Any suggestions on care for these types of sponges, and what to do about dead tissue?

Thanks,
Dustin

Dustin-
When I was researching sponges, I was told very clearly that if white spots start to form and spread, to imediately cut them out under water. I was told that if you didn't the sponge would quickly die. They also said to take a little extra around the splotches just to make sure. I don't know from experience, just what I have heard.
Good Luck
Bryan

I have also heard to remove the bad spots quickly? Now I can see how each sponge would be different, but I dont want to help finish it off either. Any other experience with these sponges?

Thanks...

dustin,
If it's a Caribbean blue vase (the only one I work with) then it should heal.
It's been my experience that when they go down, it sounds like what you're describing though.
Luckily, they don't release toxins.
Slow down on the feeding for a while, give it good circulation but no direct blow.
Good luck
Jerel
