Splitting LR

Is there anything I should know about breaking up LR?

Basically, I want to split some of the rounder pieces so as to make a better reef structure...

I assume I just need to keep it wet with salt water while working with it but will there be any type of ammonia/nitrtite spike when I reintroduce the frags to the cycled tank? (The LR is coming from the same tank...)

It's messy and it never breaks where you want it to, so just cover it with a towel and whack it...


Fiji is hard where you want it to be fragile, and fragile where you want it to be hard! Some pieces fall apart in your hand, some defy being broken. Marshall Island is very easy, but who would want to break a large piece of MI anyway???.

Ps- you can put it right back in the tank afterward. I might rinse it saltwater first though.

I had a little luck with drilling some holes along the line you want to break it at. Then wack it.
