I wonder what the salinity is in a tide pool in rainy season???
somewhere around 1.025, I use my hydrometer and just watch my tank life for changes. guess I'm lucky no problems in 8 years

35.6 is just an average - of "all" oceans and really means nothing as a set point. Our water can range from 30-36 overnight.
As far as inverts, it depends on the inverts. Ask a bunch of astrea, ceriths, cucumbers, and blue legs, etc how it feels to be trapped at low tide in the rainy season. They don't care.
I don't care, my fish don't care, and my inverts don't care - as long as I stay in a range that they are adapted to and they have a wide range.

1.025 to 1.026 ... taken with a refractometer. Im so glad I never went for the floating type hydrometers. Its clear and easy and can be taken at any temperture.
It seems most are at 1.025 or 1.026 Nice voting people

usually made to 1.026, but with evap, i know i have a good swing. My leather is the tall tale for me, know how and when my corals react to the dropping lets me knwo when something is amiss. i run about 2 gallons very few days. Oh yeah, my leather hates lower SG levels

This is incorrect. This all started with using lower salinities to kill parasites that could be living on the fish. the thinking was that if the fish were to be put into a system with a much lower salinity the parasites would not be able to live. The problem with this thinking is the fact that fish should be acclimated, so when you acclimate the fish you are acclimating the parasites also...

Thank you, Geoff.
Totally agree, and I run my salinities between 1.026 to 1.027 SG at 80 oF (S = approx 35 to 36 PPT). If you want to kill parasites on fishes, use the FW dip: It is used by most professional aquaria, the procedure is in the Spotte text along with documentation.

I voted for 1.024 but that's only my reef tanks. My FOWLR tank is at 1.009 because of the slight ich outbreak. But the problem appears to be at an end. I'm just going to run the hypo for another two weeks and my problem is solved.
