Question

Species ID

so my tank finished cycling in record time...now I am finalizing my choices on fish and corals, but I am having a trouble figuring out which fish react well with which corals, which corals react well to each other...etc. Can anyone recommend specific books for Fish and Coral ID, proper habitat for a given animal, and potential interactions between a species...I may be asking for alot, but I figure this info has got to be somewhere and I was hoping someone could reccommend good sources for this info? Any web sources out there?

Thanks,

- Chris

Good Morning Chris!! I have a reference book for corals and it is titled: A Guide to the Selection, Care and Breeding of CORALS for the MINI-REEF AQUARIUM by Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod. Copywright 1997.
I use it all the time and contains 286 pages with color photos and great info on different types of corals. Johnny

My favorite right now for fish is Scott Michael's Marine Fishes pocket guide. I would buy a seperate coral book. Maybe Julian Sprung's coral book or Eric Bornemans new coral book.

I have access to the Baensch atlas's while they are nice for ID not much real tank compatability info, The pocket guide by Scott Micheals is on my must get list.
I have the Practical Guide to Corals and Coralsa quick reference guide by J Sprung, I nned to get Eric Bornemans new Coral husbandry book, esp since so much of the MACO class seems to revolve around it

Question

Thanks for the info!!!I have "The Reef Aquarium" volumes 1 and two (Deelbek & Sprung), is that the "Sprung" book you were referring to? Seems the pocket guide is the proverbial bomb for fish, I'll have to pick that up.

The Sprung book I was refering to is "Corals, a quick reference guide" kind of a companion to the "Practical Gude to Corals" by Borneman and Puterbaugh
