SOS follow up

Hey guys...

Just a follow up from my Frustrated SOS post from last week. I took a water sample to Imagine Ocean (my lfs) and Scott was nice enough to "taste" my water for me.

He said that not only was my water good, it was near perfect. All the way around...great water. His only guess is that perhaps one of the electrical devices in the tank is leaching voltage. I purchased a voltage test kit and I'll test that in a little bit.

Anyway, I'm still in the dark as to why my finger leather and then my colt coral turned into nasty paste and I lost a couple of fish.

Thanks again for everyone's input and questions...perhaps my tank is haunted.

Hans

Hi Hans,

Sorry I missed you last night... did you happen to have brought a sample of your RO product water? The cyano issue could be from phospate in your RO water and if the phosphates are being bound up by the cyano, water won't show phosphates in a test.

Just another thought.

Usually fish are the ones to suffer when voltage is present. I'm still stumped about the coral deaths - unless there was a severe salinity or temperature change.

Any idea how to test for stray voltage? Scott mentioned something about putting one probe in the water and one to a ground? Am I testing for AC or DC? If I stick my tounge in the socket will my eyes light up? Anyway, I have a multi-meter to test it with and I guess I'll go experiment...

So I just tested my RO water and it tests 0 for phosphate, nitrate, and nitrite. Man...

I KNOW I need new bulbs. That's the next thing to try for the cyano (which is really mild now, but I still have the sh#t.

Temperature in the tank is right at 80...mine is currently about 50 (or so it feels).

"...perhaps my tank is haunted"

I've chalked mine up to gnomes. If only it were that easy.
