Something to know.
I'am reposting this from a reply to my search for sand post so that everyone will get a chance to view it. Please not that I am not trying to start big foupau I just passing on some info that I believe to pertain to us reefers.
I'm posting this to let you know something that was passed to me by a good friend that works for HD and did alot of research for me on trying to get some Southdown playsand out to Washington. He was told a few disturbing things. What he was told was the following: The playground sand that HD sells is truely from the same plant as the aquarium product we know as Caribsea. This is good. What is bad is I have been told that the sand that HD gets is shipped to a plant in Mexico for bagging and shipment. This Mexican plant also bags and ships a varity of other products including fertalizers, other sands and a bunch of other stuff. Thier has been alot of cases of cross contamination. this does not happen to all bags of this stuff just some (I geuss if your bags were filled from the bottom of the heap or were in close proximity to other products) Apperantly Southdown Inc. has recieved so many complaints about this contamination that they are in the process of relabeling thier bags to say "not for Aquarium use". This is bad..
Anyway this is what my friend was told directly from Southdown Inc. so I thought I should pass it on to everyone on the board for their thoughts.
