Question

Someone explain this to me!

Why is it that after i add extra flow (CLS) to my 110 gallon tank I get extra green slime/algae on my viewing panels w/ the most flow directed at them???

Also it is mostly only on the panels that get the most direct flow. Basically the front pane gets the majority of it and gets covered the fastest.....about every two days.. As this is primarily where all my jets are aimed??

This is also true on my 10 gallon nano as well! There is a small PH on the one side of the tank and the side pane right next to it get virtually all the algae growth on it while the others really get very little????

Also on the 110 I have been skimming wet, blasting rock, no sand under the rock, rock on PVC, spray bar pushing crap out, tossed the wet dry, and improved the skimmer signifigantly?????

Basically I have changed everything for the better than what I used to do yet get a lot more surface slim than I used to. Nothing on the rock though??? All this started after the upgrades.....I thought it was maybe a small tank cycle but it now has been going on for about 7 months????

HELP!

I dont know what to tell you. All i can offer is that if there wasnt excess nutrients coming from somewhere, it wouldnt be growing. But you know that. ; )

that type of algae just likes flow...your rocks could have some trapped ditritus and could be leaching just enough for that type of algea to grow.
My tank is very clean and I still need to clean the glass every 3 days.
If it really bothers you try shifting the flow so it does not blast the front pane of glass.
That might slow down growth a bit...but I would just clean more and give it time.

I have diverted them more cross -wise but still ultimatly most flow heads to the front. If I go to much cross than it shhots into the overflow making splashing sounds???

Maybe I can try just putting more flow through the spray bar and less to the nozzles???

Yeah Yeah Yeah.....but it is weird as I never had this problem before all this.

If this is really the case, then it's only a matter of time before things go bad.
You might be seeing that now.

It may be time to start the cooking process, which you are partially seeing.

Yeah it was like this for three years....but I solved it.....with all the additions above. I even replaced all the sand, and rinsed the rock really good before readding it, have had BB for two months and BB under the rock for 6 months and have been blasting the rock 2-3x's per week, skimming wet and doing WC's

SO the rock is basically cooking in my tank now for 8 months!

It can be rebuilt.

it may just be the fact that since it is in the heaviest flow, it gets more nutrients through sheer volume.
