So many reasons why, as before not all tanks have the same volume or water perams even using the same water. Eventually they may all have phosphates high enough to cause the same issue. you are aiming at < 0.05 mg/L on Po4-3 for coral to thrive. Also remember it mat be a bad bulb as stated before, just because it is emitting light does not indicate it is enough light or not a damaging kelvin of radiation. bulbs go bad out of the blue some times, even new ones. Start with the obvious possibel problems then rule out others.

PC bulbs cannot leak UV that would harm corals. If the glass shielding cracks or breaks, they do not work anymore.

Check your return pump or heater if you have one. You probably have A/C current leaking directly into the water.

My return pump has been shooting microbubbles and being loud for the past couple of months so maybe its broken and leaking AC current into the tank. When my dad gets home tonight we'll check it out.

Thanks, but we need mistakes to learn i guess, now i know better. Hopefully with my new tank with my nice Tek fixture and new heater with a nice skimmer, new water, and no more algae my corals will thrive and ill finally have my perfect piece of the reef to study off of

I think you'll find the distilled water will help. I started using distilled water for water changes when I first got a large hair algae problem. The distilled water helped me get my nitrates back down quickly and was a HUGE help getting rid of the algae. I REALLY need to just crack open my wallet for my own RO/DI unit. It's expensive to keep buying distilled water.
