Somebody Kick Me!
So, when I set my sump up I thought it would be a great idea to put a layer of aragonite down. You know extra buffer, ph helper etc. Luckily I cought this in time before real disaster struck. I woke up this morning to strange sounds coming from the skimmer pump. I took it apart to find, oh yah, aragonite blocking the impeller. So now tommorow on the old day off I get to empty the sump, take it out of the stand, remove the aragonite, clean both pumps, and get her going agian. While trying to watch football. Anyone interested in helping pizza and beer is on me . Anyway I figured you all could get a good chuckle. Nothing was damaged, so it's pretty funny. Arrrgh!!!

AACK, things happen. I came downstairs to discover my tank was 3 gallons low. I added a tetratec UV5 light and had a leak. Bad part is I still have a leak after trying to fix it 2 times. Stupid plastic, can't tighten it to tight or it will crack and if I use anymore teflon tape I will be using a whole role.

Nick, my legs aren't that long, lol.
Depending on the water level in your sump, can you mount the pump either upside down or sideways, so the intake is away from the substrate? That might solve the problem. You can also put a piece of nylon stocking, held in place with a rubberband, over the intake but you'll need to clean it often.
Hooked, have you tried those plastic Kwik clamps? You can usually ratchet those down hard enough to stop leaks without fear of damaging anything.
HTH,
Alice

Nick what are you using for a sump? I find dividers absolutely essential if you run a sand bed in the sump

Hello Alice,
My problem isn't at the hose to fitting connection, its at the fitting to base connection. It has interchangable fitting depending on your hose size. I still have a very very slow drip. It's down to about 1 drip per 2 hours. I just don't want to tighten them to tight, they will crack I would think. Maybe I can try a little silicone around were the two lips meet together. I wouldn't think the silicone would be bad for system since it wouldn't get in contact with the water. I just don't want to rig it.
