Some Questions - stand building, tank drilling, ...

I think I am getting close to starting to set up a tank. So long as Uncle Sam doesn't ask for too much more of my money.

When building a stand is it easier or better to have already bought the tank? Is just having accurate dimensions enough to start construction.

When drilling a tank for a closed loop, will anyone guarantee the tank? In other words, if the tank breaks while drilling I get a new tank. I know you can buy custom tanks with the holes of my choice drilled but I was just wondering about the above.

I think that is it for now. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be getting started soon.

i like to have the tank in my hand before building the stand, but then i am not the most accurate measurer.

as for drilling. unless you get it from the manufacturer, they generally do not guarantee against glass breakage when drilling.

I agree with Geoff on both accounts. Most shops will not guarantee against breakage. I asked the lfs wher I had a sump drilled what their record was and he told me the only tanks he had trouble with was a 10 gal. This was because of very thin glass.
I also like to have the tank on hand before building a stand or canopy. Less chance to screw up

Thanks for the replies. I went to a LFS and was told essentially the same thing. Small 10g tanks are hard but the bigger tanks are relatively durable. We are thinking about getting a 90g and the hole will be drilled a few inches below the water line so I don't think there will be too much trouble drilling it.
