Question

some pics and questions re: my tank

My questions are

What are the white bugs in that picture!?

Does the torch coral look healthy? You can see one head with the (rotting?) skeleton in the background!

What do you think of the aquascaping?

What can I do about this freakin algae!?

Thank you.

Algea - How long are your lights on. Also what are your clean up crews? Snails and crabs do wonders. Lots of them..

A magnetic algae cleaner works wonders, can also check out a kent scraper for the tougher algae. Nice LPS's. Dont worry about the white bugs they are perfectly normal.

Thanks for the info vince; do you know what the white bugs are called? Should I TRY to scrape them when I scrape the algae or are they good for the tank??? Also my hermits keep killing each other so I guess i should add more soon since I've lost about 3 or 4. I keep seeing my blue ones wearing the red's shells ahhh. The lights are on 14hrs / day too much I know I will go to 13 soon. And get some phosban hopefully that will help with the algae.

White bugs/worms...perfectly normal.

Algae? Gotta get an RO/DI unit. You're tap water is fueling the algae. If you're using RO/DI, and still have algae...might be overfeeding.

Canibal Crabs? Buy some extra empty shells, add them to the tank. If there's enough food, the only reason they're killing each other is for the shells.

Aquascaping looks nice. Can't really tell much with the algae in the way!

as for the coral...I can't see the rotting you're referring to, so can't help there...sorry.

run Rowaphos in your filtration. it will help with the algae and will keep your water clear. The little white "bugs" may be a variety of tiny feather dusters. Do they move about? I have tons of them. I only scrape them from the front glass.
