So I'm tearing down my tank.
Yah I'm not happy with it, it's not drilled, and my sand bed sucks and there is bubble algae everywhere I am putting all my coral into a 33G for now with about 40 pounds of rock, and I am going to cook the rest of my rock, will cooking the rock get rid of the bubble algae? My main reason for cooking originally was cyano everywhere but it seams to have subsided does anyone think there would be any negative effects on my coral putting them in all new water but with some of my original live rock I wil not have substrate in the new tank. I am never happy with the tank, do you think a 90 would sit on a 77 stand?

Cooking will rid the bubble algae. Not sure about a 90 on a '77 stand'...it all depends on dimensions really.
Cooking your rock is a smart choice. I started that methodology and recommend it to all
Good luck!

A 90 will sit on a 75 stand if it is a standard size. The 90 has the same footprint as a 75, just a few inches taller.

The All Glass tanks share a similar footprint, but it may vary from manufacturer also the taller 90 has thicker glass and a substantial weight increase, things to look at.

The question of "cooking" rock brought to mind my thoughts on new reef tanks and cycling from the early days of this board. I used to preach let you tank cycle and basically wait 6 months before stocking it. This was back before rock cooking became the trend, Same reasoning but we didn't do it in the dark then. The whole point was to let the tank settle down and go thru the cycles that extend beyond the basic ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, like dealing with sulfur and other by products of waste breakdown.
Good Luck with the redo

Yup, Perfecto and AGA have the same footprint for their 75 and 90. I'm not sure about other manufacturers. The Perfecto 75 is listed as 1" taller than the AGA 75, so the AGA is just over 74 gallons and the Perfecto is just over 78 gallons.

How about putting it in a small tupperware container with some sand in it?

77 gallons sounds like a custome size, so I'd say probally not.

I don't think that's going to be a problem. They prefer the sand because it's soft and doesnt cut them like rockwork would. Being on the BB floor, you should be fine.
As far as I know, they arent on the floor for food or anything other than the softness.

My only concern with this is that the sand and water would become stagnant being enclosed like that. Maybe construct a 'dish' out of fine mesh such as wedding veil would work...

You're not supposed to put the lid on.
