I'm talking months in the future I have nothing right now not even the tank, and I have been using books/these forums to study up for the last 2 weeks on this entire hobby I wasn't planning to rush.
However you have rushed your answer cause you didn't answer me!

You'll annoy the Eel with a BB, I'm not sure they GOTTA have substrate, but they do like to dig. When you say Reef Safe, do you mean will they eat Live Rock or Corals, I haven't seen it, but all the pretty fishes, shrimp, snails, crabs....they are fair game.

they like to live in the Lr and need to hide. i also do not know if hte must have a substrate , but all small fish, snail , shrimp are dinner for it.
as far as coral and such they will not bother them at all unless they knock them over.
some people have never had any problems with them trying to get out. but they are a very good escape artist, if you do decide on getting one, make sure they can not get out.

I know all about the tight lid, making caves, and the incompatiblity with small fishes but I still have no real answer about the substrate other than "it would annoy them"
How fast would one of these grow in a 70 gallon tank over the course of a year or so? Specifically would a baby out grow the 70 in a year
I don't want to upgrade tell I move next year for college

I have one in my 120. Yes it is possible to keep it in a bb tank. They will not bother corals. Yes it will probably out grow the tank in a year or so. The biggest problem I have with mine is the amount of polution. Big fish = Big poop! Quite difficult keeping the nutrients in the water down. I am now looking for a good home for mine, he is about 30".

you are right, but you will find that you may need to clean it more than you thought. have you looked into getting a zebra moray. we have one. it is in a BB. these are only crustacean eaters. they do not bother fish. or any other inverts if fed adequately. mine did eat a sea urchin, but that was because he had not been fed in a while. they do not need a substrate as long as they have a place to hide. depending on the eels size i would consider them equal to 2-3 large fish in bio-load.
eels are very strong, make sure you LR is very stable. they will tear up loose LR if they feel they need to "spin" off a piece of food.

From what I've read Zebra Morays get way too big for me to handle even if I were to upgrade to a 125, and frankly I have a 70 coming in the next couple months, and I don't plan to get a 125 until I leave for college which is not tell may of 06 I just would never have the room to house a giant eel.
