It IS a moray family eel. It has the potential to eat pretty much anything it can fit into its mouth. I think my six line was always safe simply because he was much faster(and less blind) than the eel and i kept him well fed. He never bothered any corals, and the only negative thing i can say is he liked to burrow and mess up my reefs stability. That would be a non issue now as i lift and stack my rock so nothuing can budge it...but that was the only negative thing i have to say about him. : )

Mine never bothered them, and i had all of them in the tank with him.
I do think the shrimp thing is pushing it from other stories i have heard though.

Ive heard you just need to put him with something bigger than his head. The coolest/creepiest thing I saw was at my LFS. There was a snowflake "cuddling" with a Hippo Tang. It was the tangs original spot, and the snowflake tried to take it over. None of them were budging, so they shared it lol.
They seem very cool. I will be adding one of those to my 150-200g FOWLR for Diddy. Some people say they will find a way out of your tank, but the LFS didnt even have a lid on it, so who knows.
The greenwolf eels are very cool too I think. Theres one at my LFS, and its only about $40-$50 I believe. I think they might even be less aggressive.... Or theyre more aggressive, its one of the two lol.
Give em somewhere to hide, and keep em fed, and I think youre safe. Make them somewhere nicer than PVC pieces though please lol.

they are considered one of the more reef safe eels. i feel the zebra is the most reef safe of the eels, besides the true golden. if the fish in the tank are small enough a snowflake will take them. any crustacean are fair game also. they do grow bigger than listed. i have seen them 3' long.

only thing ive read is to have a good fitting lid... but i feel if they are happy enough in the tank, no need to try to leave. give it a good home, and remember it will eat stuff. so dont get too mad if you make some tiny fish errors.

currently keeping 2 large ones at my fav lfs. they are almost blind so they will feed more by smell. they will try to eat moving critters that swim/walk by so don't keep shrimp with them. hermits and snails are usually fine. feed them using a feeder stick and waive the food in front of them. you must keep a tight lid on a tank with ANY eel as they will get out if they can. if you do find one on the floor put it back in the tank first. most eels will cover themselves in slime when they are out of the water and can survive like that for hours.
any other ?

I have heard of one living in a guys rug for almost 6 hours covered in a huge hairball. he thought the thing was dead but put it back and it made it. dont know exactly how true that is but its a good story.
I have one now and its blind as a bat. I dump food next to his cave(s) and he pokes his head out of all the spots trying to taste his way to the silver side.....If you play mission impossible theme song and have a few beers...it can be entertaining. I love it so far

ive have had one for a pretty long time (a couple years) and he never bothered any shrimp/snails/crabs that were added before them, but when i decided to add a peppermint, the shrimp didnt even have a chance to duck under the rock before the eel grabbed him. Also once one of my perculas was sick and the eel decided that was a better chance then any to get a quick meal. He finished off both of my percs (they were acting ill so i am guessing thats why he ate them...easy meal) Other than those few instances ive had mine in a reef tank without much problems, its actually one of my favorite fish.

I would feed mine as many guppies as he could eat in 5 minutes every 4 days or so.
