Snail Behavior ..

I am attaching a pic to show what my 2 snails have been like for the past 24 hours or so. They both went this way at exactly the same time. Do snails ever behave this way? or is it safe to say, they are dying?

Thanks

Flip them upright. Sometimes when they land on the sand they can't get a strong hold to flip back over.

did you turn them back over? are they moving? My snails and crabs get upside down all the time.

you can pull them out and smell them. if they smell real bad, then they are obviously dead.

I turned them back over a couple times, when I poke them, they do move, they are still alive.

well I took them out the other day when they completely stopped moving, figured I would get them out before they polute. I am thinking I probably shocked them to death with my salinity hike .. oops. Anyhow, I picked upi 5 new snails, of a different type, and from a different store. These are more active than my others ever were! .... more expensive too though.

Those type of Astrea snails are one of the only kinds that can not flip themselves back upright, if the hobbyist does not do it themselves the snails will end up dying

well I think I may have answered my own Q with this problem as 2 of the new snails died. The other 3 are going strong though! ..... I believe I killed them by not acclimating them properly.

It happens to all of us. Always make sure to help a snail back up onto it's feet!

I made that mistake too, which is why now I buy snails that can make it back up on to their own feet

Thanks! ... while we are on the topic, do coral have to be acclimated? I was told I could just dump them right in, but now I am wondering...

I'm sure you'll get a mix of answers to this, but i figure it never hurts to spend the time to acclimate all our purchases... esp since we don' tknow the differences in the systems they are moving between
