Thats funny that you say that
I also have a 29 gallon with an
Eclipse Hood. I had the low wattage bulbs in there only to find out that it wasn't enough. I retrofitted it with a 55W powercompact so i have a total of 95 watts. I know that the wattage may seem small still but you have to take into account the height of the tank and how much space is between the corals and lighting as well.
Currently I have a 5 headed torch, a
green star polyp colony about 7 inches by 7 inches, a varitey of zooanthids, a Hammer that is about half the size of GSP, and a varitey of mushrooms growing everywhere. Everything seems to be fine with it; I've been up and running for about 9 months.
Lastly, you probably don't want to put much more lighting in there than what I suggested. I have a buddy who put about 200 in an Eclipse hood and melted the plastic, thus frying is whole tank - really bad. To help this, I cut square wholes in the sides of the hood and installed 3 inch computer fans which I wired to a phone charge that just plugs into the wall. Works great to keep it cool. Before that I was seeing water temperature changes of about 7-8 degrees in a 4 hour period after the lights turned on (thats the one problem with eclipse, there completely enclosed)
Hope it helps.
