Talking

small pred tank

I am considering setting up a small predator tank. This would be FOWLR. I am looking at around 45-55 gallon corner or diamond tank.
looking at the following fish
dwarf lion
valentini puffer
flame hawk
dwarf angel
Well really looking at the first 3 fish but if 4 are possible or if the angel is a better choice than one of the others I'd switch for it. (He's my alternate).

Could this be a good plan? I'm not looking at any corals in this one. If I don't go with that shape then I'd probably go AGA 50 gallon (the 3 foot long tank).

What would be the cleanup crew be for one of these? I'd like to get a black long spine urchin if possible. Any suggestions?
Advice?
thanks!

Clean up grew is tough for that tank, especially since the Lion and maybe some of the other fish will prey on your inverts, including cleaner shrimp and crabs. Someone else have an idea on what clean up might be safe?

Yeah I'm not really sure what would make it past those three
I thought they could be alright together depending on if the puffer won't nip.
the hawk be okay with the lion?

Hi
I figure for this project I'd get a remora pro skimmer a few powerheads and leave NO lighting on it.
ummm could I do barebottom or just a thin layer of CC or sand for substrate.
This tank won't be started for sometime but I'd like to get as prepared as possible. Any info on any part of this would be super.
sites to visit
anybody do something similar
Thanks

I'd like to hear more on this as well. I have a 125 gal reef, and I'm going to be getting an old 130 gal tank from my dad. I was thinking about setting this up for a lion fish. I have 3 big HOB filters, two Pengiun Emporer's and 1 Tetra Tec w/ heater. With all those bio wheels I was planning this to be a FO tank, probly BB tank. This is WAYYY down the road for me though, at least a year or two away, but I'm interested in the advice for this thread so I can make notes.

I would say bare bottom and a remora pro would be good for this kind of tank. You might want to add a good powerfilter like an Aquaclear 500 and a couple of good powerheads. Just arrange the LR so it's really easy to siphon the bottom of the tank. Because corner tanks tend to be taller there's not going to be much swimming room so you may want to keep that in mind when you select your fish. I'm not sure about the clean up crew for that tank...

Do you think that a 50 gallon aga would be better? With that I could stick a lighting strip I already have on it. That would give it a bit better light than one strip. Also swimming room would probabably be better.

I wouldn't worry about the light as much as I would about swimming room and water movement. You may want to check out www.grimreefer.com. They're a site dedicated to predator only reefs and could probably give some pretty specific advice for the set up you want and what type of fish you want to house.
