small clam keeps moving

How do you get a clam to stay put???

I have a small clam and it keeps moving around. I've placed him up on the rocks and in the morning he's on the sand. So like most pictures I've seen I placed him in the sand. With in a day or so he's tilted in an awkward manner and doesn't get direct light. He doesn't seem to attatch to anything and I've tried surrounding him with rocks and things like that.

I have another clam that attatched to the rocks right away.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,
Jeff

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Our little squamosa hopped around quite a bit at first. Sounds like yours is just trying to find a suitable home. Leave him be - if he's not getting enough light, he'll move. Ours still moves about to an extent, but mostly to shake off sand that our wrasse accidentally threw on him. (The wrasse did try to bury it when they were first put together, but the clam just kept digging out.) I think it just depends on the clam, and where it will be happy.

Have fun watching it!

I have a baby maxima that would move up and down the tank nightly. One morning I'd find him high up on the rock, next day I'd see him in the corner in the sand and I could see the trail! I even found him one morning attached about 1" up on the front glass! I stopped trying to move him and now he's finally settled down right up against, and under an acropora frag. Neither seem to mind being cozy. Took him over a month to find his comfy spot.
