Slate bottom tank ?

I have recently aquired a antique metal frame, slate bottom tank. I think it is sealed with tar on the metal frame I will reseal with sillicone. Is there any reason I should replace the slate bottom I am going to make it into a softy/dwarf seahorse tank dose anyone have any exprence whith metal frame tanks if someone dose any info would be verry helpful.

Silvers, it's not worth messing with one of them old metal frame tanks for Salt Water in my experience, we tried that a lot back in the 70's when all glass tanks were new and plex was exotic

I agree with Doug on not worth the trouble, I gave a bunch of them away last year 100 gallons and 1 -55, I love the way they look, but they are not idea for salt, But it can be done
