Skimming Part time ?

I just installed my new EuroReef CS6-1 skimmer on my 120 gallon tank. So far I love it, although it's not really cranking yet, with one exception... the impeller is just a tiny bit noisy. It's livable but I can hear it (my tank is in the living room). Can you effective skim without running 24/7 ? My first thought was just to run it Midnight-9am. And then I thought maybe if I just had it switched off from like 6pm-Midnight... Do you think I could do either successfully ?

Hey Mark I never tried that with my wimpy skimmer but you prolly could shut it down for tv time, I would definatly start it back up for night time tho, aeration and issues and all that. Perhaps put the pump on a timer

Hi Mark!

I've read many people ony run there skimmers at night. I never used to run a skimmer at all so I don't really see the problem.

As Doug pointed out, running the skimmer at night helps with the 02 levels, also most corals in our tanks are open during the day (opposite of the wild) and it would make sense to have more unskimmed foodstuff in the water when they are open and possibly feeding then during the non-photo period when they are closed up.
