skimmer top keeps popping off

Berlin Red sea skimmer, I have the top on right but for the past three days, it is off when I check the tank and foam is running down the sides (it is askew, not completely off, just not seated), a real stinkin' mess. I clean it and make sure the holes are not clogged.

Solutions?

Weight it down?

Thanks

Redrill the holes oversize. Not quite sure of the construction of your model, but hopefully it's constructed well enough to withstand a drill bit. Another solution would be to construct a heavy lid so the foam cannot lift it. My skimmer has a heavy pvc lid and it is flat with holes and a groove. Some may be more difficult.

are you draining the skimmate to an external device?

Good point! and is it vented? sounds like a pressure problem.

No it is plugged (with factory peice) and I empty it everyday.

I am running real wet

"Make shure the cap vent is clean."

I clean the holes every day also. There is a whole ring of them around the edges of the cap (not the center where it comes up)

I also adjusted the whoel cup up alittle (won't be running as wet though) to see if that helps.

This is what I have, and it just started this a few days ago. Could it have to do with the diatom explosion?

As already suggested, vent your cap with better (larger) holes, and run a large diameter line to a collection jug that is well-vented, especially if you're running a wet skimmate.
