Skimmer sponge

I have an attachment on my CPR skimmer that allows it to surface skim. There is a sponge at the entrance that blocks big particles from entering and goofing up the pump. The sponge has turned brown over the last year, and I wonder if it is turning into a nitrate factory. I run it under hot water once a week. Is this sufficient to clean it?

Hey Crispy, I think at least a couple times a week is better, if its trapped and it sits it breaks down, eh

is it something you can get a replaceemnet for or make one easily, rinsing daily wont hurt
