Skimmer Pump Question

I have a short and hopefully simple question for you guys. Should the foam filter be left on the submersible pump for my venturi skimmer, or should it be removed to allow more of the "junk" to make it into the skimmer?

If theres a possibility of it pulling in tiny bits of sand or something you can leave it on, wash it frequently or just leave it off if theres no sand near it

There is a small amount of sand that made its way into the sump when I first set the tank up...but that is it. I will get that little bit of sand out, and remove the sponge. Thanks.

Same rule for the return pump? No sand = no sponge? Thanks again.

yep, no sponge on either, they just trap the stuff you are trying to get out of the tank.
