Skimmer Mag18? Help Please!!!

I decided i want a bigger and better skimmer and have a few questions:

1. can a Skimmer be ran outside of the sump?
2. can you use a Mag18 pump to run a skimmer?
3. has anyone here built there own skimmer?

1 yes 2. sure but why 3. not from scratch but modded a ton.
why not use a sedra pump with a needle wheel which would use a lot less electricity, and add a lot less heat. big discusion in the think tank check it out.....

well, i can get a mag18 for 65$ thats why.

that kind of pump would work well on a downdraft, a verturi or a beckett. i use a pm bullet one but you may prefer a diffrent design.

I run an Aqua C 150 w/ a Mag 12 and that works great. If you went with an Aqua C 180 or larger I would think you'd be fine.
