Skimmer Help

My current skimmer is old and not doing the job I want it to do anymore. I need suggestions for a good, hang on type. If it will be sufficient enough. I have a 65gal. with fish and coral and live rock. Any comments, suggestions, or experiences will be welcome. I want something that will do a good job without totally breaking me. Thank you.

CPR Bakpak is a GREAT skimmer. I have one running on my 58, and I love it! I believe the other one that I have seen used quite a bit around here is the Aqua C Remora...lots of sales here, lots of good reviews.

I have an AquaC Remora Pro on the 72g reef. I like it a lot. No tinkering to get the thing to work. I have noticed that the new models can be equiped with a Mag pump instead of the Rio - which is a good selling point for many.
I also have a CPR BakPak on a 29 gallon. I personally don't think they would be efficient for a tank larger than 50 gallons.

Thanks for your replies. It's funny that you all mention the Remora. That was the one skimmer I was told to stay away from. I was told they are very noisey and the Rio connection. I'm more confused now. Someone suggested a LifeReef PM Hot-1. Is this a hang on or can it be set underneath the tank. I don't want to use a sump. What are your thoughts on this one. Or any others. Thanks again. And Welcome...Red Fish Blue Fish.

Thanks for the welcome, Enchanted
I don't find the Remora all that noisy. But then I am not overly sensitive to the hums and slurping of my tanks I am ordering a Mag 3 to replace the Rio 1700 that came with it. Like many I don't particularly like Rios. I have a sump so I wish I would have gotten the Remora Urchin. The thing I don't like about any hang on skimmer is if you neglect the collection cup, it runs all over the floor. This has happened to me on a couple of occasions. What a smelly mess!

I personally do not like the CPR bakpak. I have a model that is a couple of years old. Maybe the new ones are a little better. I was never impressed with the skimmate it pulled out. It's much better than a seaclone or skilter, though!

RedfishBluefish! Do you know if the mag pump will fit in the filter box that you can get with the Remora Pro? I have the filter box which I use as an overflow box and it sure takes the film cover off the top of your water. Just curious, Johnny

Enchantedsea,
I have a Remora on the 55 reef and a BakPak2R on the 38 FOWLR. I did a comparison of the two when I replaced the Knop on the 55 with the Remora and set up the 38 at about the same time.
I like the Remora a lot; coulda probably used the Remora Pro but the Remora does a good job on the 55. Almost all skimmers come with Rio's but I am using MJ1200's on both skimmers now. The Remora is actually quieter than the BakPak.
